Healing Balm

A high-quality balm is critical. Apply a very thin layer twice daily to maintain moisture.

WHEN TO USE: Apply after washing for the first week.

Moisturizer

Switch to a light unscented lotion once peeling begins to keep new skin hydrated without clogging pores or causing irritation.

WHEN TO USE: after first week until fully healed.

Saniderm Bandage

You may choose to use Saniderm. I recommend this brand because its adhesive is usually less irritating than alternatives. Do not apply it at the appointment, let the tattoo weep for about one day first.

WHEN TO USE: After the first 24 hours. remove after 5 days.

THE NO LIST

Swimming & Soaking

Avoid pools, oceans, hot tubs, and baths for at least 3 weeks. Submerging your new tattoo can lead to serious infection and color loss.

Direct Sunlight

UV rays are the enemy of fresh ink. Keep your tattoo covered or in the shade. Do not apply sunscreen until it is fully healed.

Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing. Tight fabrics can rub against the tattoo, causing irritation and trapping sweat and bacteria.

Picking & Scratching

As it heals, it will itch. DO NOT pick at scabs or peeling skin. Doing so will pull the ink out of your skin, leaving scars or gaps.

Common Questions

Is it supposed to itch?

Yes, itching is a normal part of the healing process as the skin regenerates. Do not scratch or pick at it. If the itch is intense, you can gently pat the area or apply a thin layer of recommended moisturizer.

How long does the initial healing take?

The surface layer of your tattoo usually heals within 3 weeks. However, it can take up to 2 months for the deeper layers of skin to fully recover and for the colors to settle completely.
